TIGRES, CRUZ AZUL TO FACE OFF IN LEAGUES CUP FINAL
The first Leagues Cup final will be an all-Mexican affair, with Cruz Azul taking on Tigres UANL next month in Las Vegas.
Sam Boyd Stadium will host the September 18 title match, which will pit two Liga MX powerhouses against each other in front of 40,000 fans.
Cruz Azul sealed their ticket to the final after beating Chicago Fire 2-0 in the opening round, followed by a 2-1 win over the LA Galaxy 2-1 in Tuesday's semifinal.
This will be manager Pedro Caixinha's fourth final in charge of ‘La Maquina'. The Portuguese coach has won two and lost one of his previous three finals.
On the other side, Tigres reached the final by first defeating Real Salt Lake 1-0 and knocking out Club America in the semifinals via a 5-4 penalty shootout after a dramatic 2-2 draw.
It's yet another final for Ricardo 'Tuca' Ferretti's during his successful tenure at the 'regiomontano' club.
However, Leagues Cup does have a different flare to it, as it offers Tigres a chance to lift an international trophy after several previously failed attempts.
